Happy Holidays!

My latest release, the string band CD "Hello Stranger" has been selected as one of the Top Ten Folk Albums of 2009 in the Boston Globe.  See entire list here. Also, "Hello Stranger" is Curve Magazine's holiday gift shopping audio pick in the December 2010 issue!  (tear sheet, below)  And here's a link to a recent TV appearance from last weekend,  WUSA9/CBS in D.C.

Back by popular demand, Cleveland was just added to my 2009 itinerary for December 27th!  I will be performing at a neat jazz club called Nighttown, in Cleveland Heights at 3 PM.  Part of the proceeds of this show will benefit Applewood Centers, a private, non-profit agency which provides behavioral health services for children and youth from birth to age 21 and their families in the Cleveland area.

In January I'm hitting the road with special guest singer/songwriter/cellist Lindsay Mac,  for four shows in the Southeast, from Eddie's Attic in GA to 3 venues in NC: the Grey Eagle, the Evening Muse and the Carrboro Arts Center.  We will sit in on each other's sets, which should make for some very interesting moments of collaborative ingenuity!  check out Lindsay, she's amazing.

Some of you may remember that I dedicated the CD Sweet Life to Lynne Ramsdell, who gave me my first guitar and started me on this path of being a singer/songwriter.  As of a year ago, I had not been able to locate her in order to thank her.   Finally I found someone who could help me--  her nephew Nick.  From there, I discovered that Lynne passed away on December 6, 2008, less than four months after the release of Sweet Life.  This past weekend, I met her brother Clyde, who remembers Lynne giving away her guitar to me all those years ago. He said she always did things for reasons only she could understand, and that she must have really sensed that I needed to play guitar!  She lived adventurously, leaving Maine for Florida where she got a job acting at Disneyworld, and later she moved back to Maine and  discovered a passion for visual art until her passing at age 55.  He shared photos of her at the age when I knew her, and photos from the past few years.   He also gave me a couple prints of some of her artwork.  I uploaded one piece that I particularly love on to the news page... it's the beautiful blue and mulit-colored weave image under this text.  She was on the verge of getting her work exhibited at a gallery, but didn't get the chance before she died.  Clyde and I decided we would try to get her stuff out there.  More on that later…

May your days be merry and bright,
(or if that seems unlikely, try a cup of tea or a hot toddy to make it through the dark, gray, winter cold!)
